1. Who we are#
Velvetum is an independent design studio (referred to in this policy as “we”, “us”, or the “Studio”). We act as the data controller for any personal information processed in connection with velvetum.com. If you have questions about how we handle data, the channels in Section 9 are the fastest way to reach us.
2. What we collect#
velvetum.com is a static marketing site. It does not run any forms, accounts, checkout, or other features that would prompt you for personal information. The only data we receive when you visit is the small set of technical signals every web server records:
- Coarse IP address, retained only in aggregated, non-identifying form;
- Device class, operating system family, and browser engine;
- Pages viewed, time on page, and the referring URL that brought you to the site;
- Strictly technical cookies required for the site to render correctly (language, theme).
All site analytics on the English version run through Vercel Analytics, which uses a cookieless approach: it relies on hashed, short-lived signals and never builds an identifiable visitor profile. We rely on legitimate interest (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)) for this minimal, non-cookie measurement. When you reach out by email or Telegram, those exchanges are processed under the terms of the respective providers.
3. Why we process data#
We process the limited signals above for a narrow set of legitimate business purposes:
- Measuring traffic patterns so we can keep the site fast and useful;
- Understanding which content resonates so we can publish more of it;
- Detecting outages and abuse so the service stays online.
Under the GDPR, our legal bases are: (a) your consent for non-essential cookies and analytics, captured through the cookie banner, and (b) our legitimate interest in operating and securing the site for the essential signals listed above.
4. How long we keep it#
Aggregated analytics data is retained by our analytics provider for up to 26 months. After that window it either rolls into permanently anonymised metrics or is deleted. We do not store any other personal information about visitors on our own systems.
Project-related correspondence and contractual records are retained for up to 3 years after the engagement ends, aligned with the confidentiality term of our Terms of Service. After that period, records are deleted or fully anonymised.
5. Who else sees it#
We work with a small number of infrastructure providers strictly to operate the site. They act as data processors under appropriate contractual safeguards:
- Vercel Inc. — hosting and aggregated traffic analytics. Data may be processed in the EU or United States under standard contractual clauses.
We do not share, rent, sell, or otherwise transfer your personal data to anyone else. If a legal obligation ever required disclosure, we would only do so to the minimum extent strictly required by applicable law.
7. Your rights#
Wherever you are, you can ask us to:
- Confirm what, if anything, we hold about you;
- Correct anything that is inaccurate or out of date;
- Delete what we hold (subject to legal record-keeping duties);
- Restrict or object to a particular kind of processing;
- Receive a portable copy of data you have provided.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, California, or another region with similar protections, you may also lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority. We would much rather you came to us first so we can put it right.
8. Children#
Our services are aimed at businesses and adult professionals. The site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you believe a minor has interacted with us, please contact us and we will remove the relevant information promptly.
9. Changes and how to reach us#
We may revise this policy as the studio and applicable laws evolve. The current version always lives at velvetum.com/privacy, and the “Last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent revision. If a change materially affects your rights, we will highlight it clearly. Continued use of the site after a revision means you accept the updated policy.
